It is a rare occurrence for a vehicle fire to explode but the increase in CNG, hybrid/electric
and Hydrogen on board vehicles is likely to alter the status for fires in enclosed
Bus fires are a rarity in terms of individual fire house involvement. Albeit, in
emerging nations many lives are taken in bus fires each and every year, we seem to
escape this carnage in developed countries but let’s not get overly complacent.
Evacuation of all passengers, in ideal conditions, can be achieved quickly but this
is largely dependant on passenger frailty, age and mobility and even more so where
the bus/coach has been involved in a collision, obstruction to doors and emergency
exits or where the vehicle has overturned and come to rest on-its-side, or tumbled
into a ravine.
