Daily News Sheet Airbag Awareness Research Share with a Friend  [eMail to friend]

In our first newsletter we introduced you to our Daily News Sheet and readers have commented on the shock/horror in the realisation of the daily happenings in our world which are a real eye opener. Rescue capability varies considerably from country to country and region to region and for those veterans out there dealing with these situations on a daily basis, we all join together to offer our support and solidarity to our colleagues.

Our article titled 'What Every Firefighter Should Know' - an exposé into both the dangers and legacy of Sodium Azide has been well received and has generated a stir in the rescue community.  For those of you who have not yet read this informative and far reaching report that tells of the immanent danger that faces all rescuers, no matter what part of the world you serve, you can access the report for free at -

You are most welcome to forward this news letter to a friend and extend an open invitation to visit our free study program at - www.resqmed.com/Study.htm

Duel-fuel & Bi-fuel vehicles -  As more and more of these vehicles populate the byways and highways, there will come the realisation that these vehicles are different.

Fire departments are well versed with the vehicle fire and fuel, whether petrol or diesel, has little bearing in how they are dealt with; that is unless of course the fuel itself is alight. Most veteran firefighters have experienced a flowing fuel fire running down the road. So how, I hear you ask, are these vehicle different and to what extent ?

Do you want to try a new technique? When confronted with an entrapment where the vehicle has come to rest on its roof, are you in a position to say I know what to do? The overturned car, particularly where it has suffered partial or severe collapse in its roof pillars can prove a difficult customer.

Heading the extensive list of articles in our Airbag Awareness Research program the latest report on accidental seat mounted airbag deployments. Titled 'Rescuer Beware' presents an analytic study into the likely implications for Rescuers and pertinent safety measures that can be adopted.

Try 'The Clam' - LPG / CNG

inverted side removal and strategic cutting and ramming commonly known as the 'Clam' has been around some considerable time. Although not called the Clam then, it first appeared in 'RTA persons trapped' way back in 1990 and again in 'Advanced Vehicle Entrapment Rescue' in 1994..It has been revised and added too and now appears in 'RTC extrication RESCUE' - Sept. 2005.  We are expanding the research into this very worthwhile evolution as it can prove a real lifesaver. To this end we offer a free download, with the usual copyright restrictions, to anyone wishing to trial a whole set of evolutions that fall into this category. Please don't forget to share your comments - HELP DEVELOP RESCUE.  www.resqmed.com/TheClam1.pdf

Again we would like to remind you of our study SRS smart systems - Logic.  into Multi-Generator airbags with multi-function electronic sensing.  Although two-stage systems are already covered, it is felt that further research is necessary to risk assess certain extrication evolutions in-line with multi-generator systems.

Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) has been about for some time and, on a few occasions. it has presented its own set of problems to firefighters. Now it comes factory fitted, dueled with a petrol engine and can be driven by either fuel. Compressed natural gas (CNG) can also be a duel-fuel system or can be supplied as a bi-fuel mixture to run the internal combustion engine (ICE).

The difference in the storage pressure between LPG and CNG is extreme with the latter normally stored at over 3000psi (200BAR). The safety valve on propane is set to release at well under 300psi, whereas the CNG valve can be as high as 4000psi (270BAR).  When fighting a vehicle fire and the pressure relief operates you can expect a loud high pressure fed flame from underneath or from the roof of the vehicle.
